About the collection:

Among the commercial advertising posters, there are artistically very valuable examples: from the Art Nouveau style posters of the turn of the century to prints from the 1920s and 30s. This collection also includes proclamations of emergency management during the war, as well as political posters affecting trade.
Our restaurant poster collection is much smaller than the commercial one. In the early days, among the catering establishments, mainly nightclubs issued posters, but we have copies related to tourism and related professions (e.g. the beer industry) as well. The text notices and wall stickers that informed the catering industry and guests about official measures, especially during times of war and revolution, are very valuable. A separate unit is made up of posters made during the period of socialism, such as wall stickers advertising the National Catering Company, cooperative restaurants, international tourism and catering industry exhibitions, as well as posters commissioned by IBUSZ.

Structure of the collection:

The Poster Collection consists of three collection units.

I. Commercial and hospitality history advertising posters
The pieces in our collection are authentic documents of the history of commerce and hospitality of the 20th century, and in this context, the advertising graphics of the era. The prints based on the designs of famous artists give a taste of the graphic design products of the Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modernism, as well as the era of socialism. This collection also includes special representatives of the poster genre, the tram posters.

II. Proclamations of the emergency management of the two world wars
(Wall stickers related to the ticket system, price maximization and food inventory.)

III. Posters with political subjects affecting trade
(organizational, election, caricatures, socialist realism posters, etc.)

Collecting activity:

We are expanding our collection in accordance with the profile of the museum, and we are particularly concerned with the exploration and collection of the professional legacies of artists who are alive today and are related to trade and hospitality.
