At the monks’ table
At the monks’ table
What do monks have to do with gastronomy? More than you would imagine. Since the early Middle age they were living under strict rules and were eating so healthily that even a modern fitness guru would be envious of it. Their rules serve not only the integrity of the body, but their spirit and soul as well. They make wine, beer and medicinal liqueurs, in addition to vegetables and fruits in their gardens, they grow a wide variety of spices and herbs, sometimes festive goodies are served on their table, and sometimes – more often – maigre dishes.
