That’s beer!

From the home brewer all the way to industrial brewery

Who brewed beer in Hungary and how? Why did Kőbánya become the citadel of Hungarian beer production? Is the Hungarian a wine or beer drinker? Is beer a civic or a worker’s drink? Our publication deals with such issues, in which we present the history of domestic brewing and consumption. Readers can learn about the drink culture of our conquering ancestors, medieval breweries, German and Czech brewers, the start of industrial brewing and the history of our largest factories, state brewing, and small-scale breweries operating today. In addition, the book reveals how beer is made, how barley becomes malt, what is the difference between lower and upper fermented beers. Finally, they can also get an answer as to whether beer was a popular drink of the bourgeoisie or the working class, how it was managed by various means of propaganda.

The book was written by: Julianna Kulich, Krisztián Hegedüs, Csaba Katona, Balázs Maczó, dr. Róbert Török.
